The existing sections of the Oxley and Parkes wharves and the Diamantina Pier will receive engineering, electrical and communication services upgrades.

Office Accommodation – Two new office buildings will be constructed on the shore adjacent to the Diamantina Pier, and the Oxley and Parkes wharves. Each facility will enable a wide range of functions to support the new Supply Class AOR (the AOR Support Facility – West) and the Arafura Class and Hunter Class vessels (Offshore Patrol Vessel and Frigate Support Facility – West ). The first to be completed will be adjacent to the Diamantina Pier. These buildings will also support the vessels and their crews when the vessels are docked at HMAS Stirling. The works also include an expansion to existing maintenance facilities and construction of new logistics support and separate storage facilities for equipment and small boats.

Training Facilities – The NCIS will deliver an integrated training precinct to provide individual and group training for the Arafura Class Offshore Patrol Vessel and Hunter Class Frigate crews. The new training precinct features a training centre with classrooms, theatrette, specialists training rooms, bridge simulator and office accommodation for training staff.

Accommodation and Domestic Support Facilities – The works include construction of medium density living in accommodation for an additional 100+ permanent staff and more than 350 trainees. The existing senior sailors’ mess and medical facility are proposed to be upgraded.

Engineering Services Infrastructure – Existing engineering services, including reticulated potable water, power and storage, will be extended to cater for the new and refurbished facilities. The capacity of the existing wastewater treatment plant is being assessed against the proposed increase in personnel on HMAS Stirling.
